For the better part of a century, the Portland Beavers have provided some of the most memorable moments in the Rose City’s sporting history. The Beavers were a charter member of the Pacific Coast League, playing in the circuit from 1903-1917, 1919-72, 1978-93, and returning to the storied circuit in 2001 after a seven-year absence.

With eight PCL championships, a home at one of the most historic venues in professional sports and a myriad of memories provided by a legendary list of baseball greats to suit up for the team, the Beavers are, indeed, a Portland institution.

Walt McCredie, Buddy Ryan, Mickey Cochrane, Jim Thorpe, Eddie Basinski, Ad Liska, Artie Wilson, Satchel Paige, Lou Piniella, Luis Tiant, Tony Pena, Juan Samuel and Bernardo Brito represent just a small sampling of the many greats that have played for the Beavers. Since the team returned to Portland for the 2001 season, the Beavers have produced such notable major leaguers as Jason Bay, Sean Burroughs, Khalil Greene and Xavier Nady, also claiming a number of major league veterans, such as Rickey Henderson, Pete Incaviglia, Brady Anderson and Charles Nagy during the team’s time as the highest affiliate of the San Diego Padres.

But a trip to PGE Park involves much more than a glimpse at some of Major League Baseball’s stars of tomorrow. The Beavers pride themselves on offering the best in affordable family entertainment. The Beavers play 72 home games each season at PGE Park, with the season beginning in early April and concluding in early September.
